The Royal Horticultural Society and the It's your neighbourhood scheme
In 2013 the group entered into the RHS scheme called 'It's your neighbourhood' scheme. It's a grass routes community gardening campaign helping people to make lasting improvements to their local areas. Just right up our street!
As part of the campaign a local Britain in Bloom Judge visited our allotment to see what we have accomplished and gave tips on how we could improve our community project. Shortly after the visit we were delighted have received a certificate from the South West in Bloom group, informing us that we had been judged as being a 'Thriving' group. An amazing achievement!
In October 2013 we joined the campaign to increase wildlife into our gardens. On the allotment site members built a "Pollinators' Palace" or "Bug Hotel" and planted over 500 Crocus bulbs given to us by the RHS.
The Wild about Gardens Week in 2014 runs from 15 to 21 September. http://www.wildaboutgardensweek.org.uk/home |
The group joined thousands of
gardening groups in a mass-planting of sunflower seeds during National Gardening Week (14-21 April 2014) to celebrate 50 golden years of Europe’s largest community gardening campaign – RHS Britain in Bloom. ‘Growing for Gold’ was the theme of RHS Britain in Bloom 2014 and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is providing half a million pollinator-friendly sunflower seeds which were sown across Britain throughout the year. |
